FLIGHTS linking Avalon Airport with eight international destinations would generate $56 million in new annual visitor spending in Geelong region, according to projections.
An estimated 8960 passengers, with 4350 inbound, would use the flights weekly, helping generate about 280 new jobs in the region and 940 in the state.
Airport chiefs say conclusions from modelling by Essential Economics emphasise the importance of opening the door to international flights.
“The benefits to the region just far outweigh the benefits to the airport itself,” chief executive Justin Giddings said.
“The benefits to the community are enormous.”
